Each month thousands of homeowners request heating and cooling service quotes on websites and landing pages searching for licensed HVAC contractors. Some of the landing pages and sites are set up to generate exclusive leads, promoting to send them the best contractor in the area to meet their home improvement needs. Other websites and landing pages focus on getting the home or business owner multiple quotes for free, which would be for the shared programs. Once potential customers submit, their information populates into a "ping-post" system. "ActiveProspect" defines "ping-post" as Ping-post is a method of selling leads based on providing (or “pinging”) potential buyers partial lead information and allowing buyers to bid on the partial lead. The winner is then given (or “posted”) the rest of the complete lead data. If the service you are with "wins" the bid on the lead and it matches your criteria, it is then delivered to you. 

Depending on which service you decide to use, leads will vary in price, how many people they send it to (which is usually wildly inaccurate), quantity, quality, delivery, and how they treat bad leads for credits. However, most lead providers are generally very similar other than having a niche gimmick that makes them stand out. Some generate more of their leads and, for the most part,  buy the rest of their leaders from the same lead aggregators. If you have worked with multiple lead generation companies simultaneously, you will now realize why you got the same lead from a few different lead services at the same time or in a short period. Lead generation services can negotiate deals with quality lead aggregators to buy all their traffic exclusively. This typically happens when the lead generation company sees the quality of leads the aggregator produces has a meager return rate. A quality aggregator would be considered one whose "return rate of bad leads" is around 15% or less. These types of companies and services are constantly adding and dropping aggregators, which is why the lead quality fluctuates so dramatically. Each aggregator can be optimized. to some extent, depending on how the information is captured. Traffic captured through PPC on search engines and organic searches is the best quality out of the methods used by aggregators. While the majority of bad leads generated by these services come from telemarketing, solicitations, misleading landing pages, and information picked up from sweepstake ads, surveys, or click funnels. The leads generated this way are why so many don't answer the phone, are confused when you call, or are angry that you're calling.
